‘Give careful thought to Mental health’ – DG Emeke Utebor
District Governor, Rotary District 9141, DG Michael Emeke Manasseh Utebor has charged Rotarians to give priority to the mental health of club members this Rotary year.
DG Emeke Utebor said this at the installation of the 11th President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City, Rtn Karina Igonikon in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital.
The amiable Chief Appreciator lauded the Club for starting strong on the first day of the Rotary year and enjoined them to create hope in the world by paying close attention to mental health issues, especially among members of the Club.
“A lot is going on in people’s lives and we in Rotary want to ensure that as we execute our service projects that help humanity, give to the Rotary Foundation, we also pay close attention to the needs of our members who may be having one mental health issue so they don’t feel left behind.” DG Emeke Utebor said.
The Appreciator President, Rtn. Karina Igonikon noted that the RI theme for the year couldn’t have come at a better time, “because there is urgent need to Create Hope in the World as people grapple with harsh economic realities where the cost of living keeps increasing while the standard of living keeps decreasing. With many nations at war around the world, this theme is a stitch in time.”
She added that the District Theme of ‘Appreciation’ goes hand in glove with the RI theme as its a time to appreciate Rotary International and Rotarians for all the good they do as well as family members, friends and Associates of Rotarians who support them in the service they offer to help society.
Appreciator President Karina Igonikon added that their service projects for the year are in line with Rotary themes and the seven areas of focus and two of them would be executed on Wednesday 5th July 2023 – ie a leadership seminar for Female journalists in Rivers State and an Oral health and environmental protection project at Model Primary School Orogbum, Port Harcourt.
